Dialysis – Kidney Health Manitoba

Kidney Health Manitoba

The Northern Health Region has five hemodialysis units located throughout the region. Three are provincially operated in The Pas, Flin Flon, and Thompson, and two are located in Norway House and Garden Hill.

Kidney Health Manitoba oversees local kidney health centres in partnership with Regional Health Authorities. Across the province, approximately 1,200 patients receive dialysis treatment, while another 4,000 are monitored through kidney health clinics. Each year, more than 275 Manitobans begin dialysis treatment.

Kidney Health Manitoba operates three Winnipeg sites and partners with local health authorities to manage locations in Brandon and 16 other centres across Manitoba.

Kidney Health Manitoba’s key initiatives include:

  • Earlier identification of kidney disease through improved blood test reporting.

  • Clear referral pathways for family physicians to support early screening and reduce wait times.

  • Simple treatment pathways for routine care of patients with kidney disease.

  • Telemedicine clinics to increase access to kidney specialists in remote areas.

  • Collaborative care with other health providers to support patients at risk.

  • A provincial electronic kidney patient database to help coordinate and expedite care.

  • Participation in national quality and research initiatives to improve outcomes.
