To protect yourself and your friends and family from getting the flu, the Northern Health Region along with Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living are encouraging all Manitobans to get a flu vaccine. For your protection, you should get immunized as soon as possible.

For the 2019-20 season, an annual flu vaccine is especially important for those at increased risk of serious illness from the flu, their caregivers and close contacts. These include:

  • People 65 years of age and older
  • Residents of personal care homes or long-term care facilities
  • Children six to 59 months of age
  • Those with chronic illness
  • Pregnant women
  • Health care workers and first responders
  • Regular caregivers of children up to five years of age
  • Household contacts of anyone at increased risk of serious illness from the flu including those with infants under six months of age and/or expecting a newborn
  • Indigenous peoples

Manitobans over the age of 65 may also get a pneumococcal shot at the same time as the seasonal flu shot. Most adults only need one pneumococcal shot in their lifetime.
